Western Caribbean Cruise
A western caribbean cruise probably describes more about where the cruise starts from rather than where it goes to. A Western Caribbean cruise tends to start from ports in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana and Alabama. Some western caribbean cruises do only reach the western caribbean but many, dependent on the length of the cruise, do reach all the major caribbean islands.
A western caribbean cruise from Florida can begin in Fort Lauderdale, Miami or Tampa and can be from 2 - 15 days duration.
Western Caribbean Cruise Lines that operate from Fort Lauderdale, Florida include Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruise Lines, Crystal Cruises, Holland America Line, Imperial Majesty Cruises, Premier Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Royal Olympic Cruises and Seabourn Cruise Line.
Western Caribbean Cruise Lines that operate from the Port of Miami, Florida include Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruise Lines, Crystal Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean International, Oceania Cruises and Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.

Caribbean By Cruise Ship: The Complete Guide To Cruising The Caribbean
Review - If you're looking for a comprehensive and informative guide to Caribbean ports, you won't go wrong with this guide. You can save money by avoiding the cost of ship-sponsored shore excursions, and you'll be more informed when you reach your destination. Anne Vipond provides a good outline of information for each port, including ideas for unique or interesting activities for that location. There is plenty of information about availability of taxis, public transportation, and ways of getting to specific places. There is also a map of most port locations that will allow you to develop your own walking or taxi tour. The "Best Beaches" section for each port identifies your best bets for sun and sand. This guide book is well-organized, very readable, and small enough to carry with you in a purse, belt pack, or back pack (not small enough for most pockets, however). Highly Recommended!
Review - This book gave me the specific information I was look for -- and will hopefully save me money. I wanted to find out how hard it would be in our particular destination (the Bahamas) to go the places I wanted to go (beaches, a zoo, shopping) without purchasing a shore excursion for six people.
This guide has wonderful walking tours of the various ports of call, as well as detailed, explicit information regarding DISTANCES from point A to point B. (If indeed, the zoo is only half a mile from the cruise ship, then clearly I don't need to pay forty dollars per person to travel there with a tour.)
I hope to enjoy some spontaneity through using this guide. It lists various ferry tours and activities that can be 'picked up' once one gets into port, along with schedules and websites, hours of operation, prices and locations for catching the tours. I'm hoping that with that information, I'll be able to perhaps get a reading on what my extended family is up for, then plan activities based on their mood, etc. This seems preferable to having to lock all activities in three months in advance to get the tours you really want from the cruise ship.
For a first time cruiser, the information about how many entrees are available at dinner, how many people sit at a table and so forth was extremely useful, as well as the etiquette of tipping and checking in. I admit, I'm still a little confused about what activities will cost extra on the cruise ship, but this book helped me feel a lot more confident about our upcoming vacation.
